July….Where did you go?

Well hello blog…. I’m sorry I haven’t visited you almost all month, but I promise I have good reason. On July 1, I welcomed my baby girl into the world and since then have been busy adjusting to life with baby. When I started this blog I promised that I wouldn’t post too much on my personal life but I thought since I’ve been among the missing for the month that adding a few updates on ME would be OK.

So today Nana came to the rescue allowing me to post this blog, catch up on some work and even shower…yes friends, shower!

So lets see…physically I can honestly say that I feel good. The Dr’s told me that I needed to wait a full 6 weeks before I could start my workouts again, though I feel great and back to “normal” after just 3 weeks. I am happy to say that since July 1 I’ve lost 30lbs. It sounds like a lot but its only half of what I’ve gained…yes it is a fact I gained close to 60lbs with my pregnancy!! 60lbs! Yikes! They say that 25-35 is the average that most women tend to gain and I had been on pace to hit 35lbs until I was summoned to bed rest a couple of times towards the end of my pregnancy. I gained an extra 25 lbs in the last two months mostly because of the fact that I literally could do nothing but lay in bed. It was so depressing. The last month of my pregnancy I would go to the Dr.’s once sometimes twice a week and watching those numbers on the scale continue to rise was just scary and discouraging. I would often find myself making lists of healthy meals and workouts that I could start as soon as the baby arrived because I was so determined to lose the weight. So while I haven’t gotten back into a hardcore workout routine I have been eating healthy and walking on my treadmill about 10-15 minutes a day until I get to the 6 week point where I can start more challenging workouts. I can honestly say that though I’m not back to my original size that I feel great and I’m determined to stay committed and I will get there in time. I mean it took me 9 months to put it on so I suppose I should give myself adequate time to take it off.

Now mentally I’m exhausted but I find that there is little time to harp on that since I’m always so busy…but honestly who isn’t busy? It’s just called life and everyone is busy! But for me it’s just adjusting to a new type of busy consisting of multiple visitors on a daily basis (so far but I’m sure it will die down soon), feedings, diaper changes, clothing changes, laundry, housecleaning, grocery shopping, baths, making dinner, playing with puppies, feeding puppies, conversations with family and friends..there is always something to do! But I think that its important to make time for me. Next week my husband and I will have our first real date night out and are looking forward to dinner in Newburyport, MA with some friends. I also try to block out at least an hour each day for myself and lately I have been checking emails and surfing the web, calling friends back and reserving time to hit up the treadmill. I think having “me time” is important so I try not to feel bad about taking it.

But above all it is true what they say, that until you have a baby it is really hard to comprehend that immediate bond and unmeasurable love you instantly have with this little person that needs you more than anyone…she truly melts my heart.

Anyways I hope to have more on my Evolving Curiosities soon.

One Man’s Trash is…. FABULOUS Part 2

In a recent post I discussed some great finds I was able to pick up at the local consignment/thrift stores.

You may recall this oversized chair and ottoman that I picked up for $80! In great condition just needed a little bit of love and some new fabric in order to fit into my bedroom.

$80 for both pieces!

Well here is the updated chair, that has been adorned with black and white toile! I love the way it looks and how it fits into my bedroom.

With a little TLC this chair looks brand new!

The lighting in the room is off but you get the drift

So next time you’re shopping around for a piece of furniture and see something you like, but it isn’t quite right, don’t rule out the idea of updating it with your own slipcovers….one man’s trash was certainly my new treasure!
